I’ve read so many great books this year, and I know I shouldn’t have favourites amongst my babies, but of course, I do. These are my top 10 books I read this year.

10. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
A heartbreaking young adult read.

9. Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
It’s not often I love a romance, but this one gave me all the feels, and I loved learning about Greek mythology through it.

8. My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness by Kabi Nagata
So honest, raw, and insightful.

7. If We Were Villains by M. L. Rio
Completely outside of my usual genre, but completely addictive.

6. Redshirts by John Scalzi
A funny, unpredictable, and sharp sci-fi for fans of shows like Star Trek.

5. Vicious & Vengeful by V. E. Schwab
This year, I read both books in the Vengeful series, which has just the best characters ever. One of my favourite things about this sci-fi/supernatural series is that the dialogue between characters is electric, and the stakes always feel incredibly high.

4. The Fifth Season & The Obelisk Gate by N. K. Jemisin
I’ve never read anything like N. K. Jemisin’s writing. Complete genius, and a real gamechanger for sci-fi/fantasy.

3. More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
I love all of Adam’s books, and this one in particular was a real heartbreaker. While I was reading it, I could feel just how personal this book was to Adam, and I really felt the pain and hurt of the main character.

2. A Closed and Common Orbit & The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet & Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers
This series does a great job of telling stories about the human condition against the backdrop of space, and I love its unique, diverse characters.

1. Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
This was the book that had the highest expectations and yet somehow exceeded them. I loved the setting, the characters, everything about it. I loved Nina, and Kaz, and Jesper, and Inej, and even Matthias, all so much! I would re-read this series over and over.
I haven’t read any of these books. So this post is a win for me. Thanks for sharing.

Great choices. I love the Six of Crows duology so much that I bought the hardcovers. I’m partway through Vengeful right now, and The Fifth Season is in my to-read list for next year.
